I recently ordered a slew of similar white chairs for a project, and they are pretty slick in person. The perfect modern touch to a work space.

And remember this incredible office from a Charlottesville home that I posted on the blog a while back?

I fell in love with that green swan chair against the checkerboard floor. I've seen several versions available, including this one on Bellacor.com -

Overstock.com also has an orange version.

These are obviously repros of classic mod chairs (by folks like Herman Miller), but I'm all for having the look at a good price. And I really love a modern chair against a traditional wood desk or an otherwise traditional interior.

 

Two Points

My first point today is that we should all be upholstering armchairs in this wonderful Robert Allen fabric that I found this week. It has a bit of a southwestern meets adirondack feel to it - it's called Country Cabin.

My second point is that you need to check out www.onlinefabricstore.net, which is where I found my Robert Allen print. I want to say that this is not a new website, but the site has gone through a MAJOR overhaul (can anyone corroborate this inkling?). It's packed with options/variety/price points, and actually has decent search and filtering capabilities. Hallelujah. And it sells not only fabric, but pillow forms, burlap and all sorts of wares for your house and projects. One of the better resources for our kind that I've seen in a while.

Yesterday's post showcased one of our favorite, stunning Chinoiserie wallpapers - "The Vase" by David Hicks for Clarence House.

Your eyes bugged out a bit, didn't they? I was thrilled to hear from Jennifer and see how she used this wonderful wallpaper. The yellow colorway is so beautiful against the earthy tones of this room - and the blue is brilliant juxtaposed with the white of the bathroom.  For some reason, I think folks tend to shy away from pairing yellow with gold (perhaps for fear of clashing), but Jennifer's vignette with the black console and turquoise lamps is a shining example of how the tones work beautifully together.

Dazzling Femininity by Ruthie Sommers

Our house has two bedrooms upstairs, both with slanted walls very similar to this fantastic space by Ruthie Sommers. I've contemplated wallpaper and this room proves that it can look fabulous in a small, slanted space.

I would love to see what Ruthie did with those small nooks on either side of the room (I have one larger nook). Everything about this feminine interior is dazzling. The Chinoiserie influence is not lost and I can't stop staring at those pink stripes. The natural floor covering brings it all down a notch and the white light fixture against a white ceiling makes a quiet statement to complement the exuberant walls.

This seems like a great bonus space - perhaps a home office. Or somewhere to play cards with the girls. Or perhaps it's a guest bedroom. Either way, I want to be sitting on that daybed.

 

Friday Crush

Bailey McCarthy's bedroom in the latest issue of Rue. I spy Leontine Linens and the most perfect shade of mint green on her walls. I love that shade of green - so nice with the pink and the blue. And the bed canopy is attainable if you put on your DIY hat. Wonderfully well done sleeping quarters.

Outdoor Chinoiserie

Carter had a brilliant idea the other day. Instead of refinishing our very old, rickety deck, we're going to tear it down and put in a stone patio. The man is a genius as I had not thought of that but for our house, it's a great solution (being lower to the ground will give us a nice dose of privacy).

So my thoughts have clearly turned to decorating this outdoor space, assuming it happens this summer (fingers crossed). It helps that everywhere I look recently, retailers are showing off their outdoor wares. And one set of furniture in particular has caught my eye.

I was SO excited to see these pieces - the "Caicos" collection from Home Decorators. I think I definitely need that dining set. I had given up hope that my patio would have stylish furniture, as I've been disappointed with the options. I'll definitely mix these pieces with other items to keep it from looking too "tiki," but it's a great start. And I'll get to bring my love of Chinoiserie outside with me.

 

Inspiring

Sometimes, I come across a space and it's just SO good - I wouldn't change a thing about it. It inspires me to think in new ways and to look at my own spaces from a different perspective.

I adore the art, the wallcovering, the desk, the mouldings. It's such a beautiful juxtaposition of warm and cool, modern and traditional, international and American.

These are the types of spaces that inspire me and remind me why I'm so obsessed with design.

For a brightly hued table, I recommend:

 

Avington by William Yeoward, a.k.a my new favorite china pattern. So simple, yet incredibly unboring in those eye-popping hues. Clearly the lavender option needs to join the ranks of my dining room. Committing to a china pattern can be stressful (for others), but I think committing to your favorite color is a bit easier, no? You can always use it as a foundation for other pieces and patterns as your china collection grows.

 

Clouds

We are under cloudy skies this morning. I'll go ahead and turn that into a positive by showing you these paintings from one of my favorite Etsy artists.

Tracey Nicholas paints these stunning, ethereal cloudy canvases using absolutely gorgeous washes of color. I will definitely be adding one of her pieces to my home - I've had the best time looking at her collection trying to pick one. Each piece is truly beautiful, don't you think?

Friday Crush

 

Had I known getting my china pattern placed on the inside of my wedding dress was an option, I most definitely would have done it. This dress is by Dior and I saw it on the (fabulous!) WeddingWire blog. The best execution of "something blue" I've ever seen, especially for a china/pattern nut like me.

Taste-Test

I recently taste-tested a fabric with positive results. I've been intrigued by this fabric called "Seagrass" sold on lsfabrics.com (I'm sure it has a proper manufacturer/pattern name and sold elsewhere - it's just where I've seen it). It comes in some great colors:

I ordered a sample of the aqua colorway, and I love it. It's a nice hearty upholstery weight and would be perfect for chairs or a sofa. And the pattern can skew preppy with its basketweave or contemporary with its artistic strokes. And after my little nudge for small-scale patterns, I thought it was a good idea to share yet another winner with you.

Ikat Folding Chairs

Look at these genius chairs from Anthropologie. I saw them last week and can't get them out of my mind. How awesome would they look 'round a dining table? All mismatched and such.

Love ALL of the colors these would add to a room. I'm currently considering them for a project...I'll let you know if I get one or two in my possession.

The latest Lonny is out. I've gotten through half and, per the usual, it has not disappointed. This vignette (designed by George Nunno and Jon Maroto in a little "how-to" section) caught my eye this Friday. My beloved orange, the use of black and the modern painting toward the back are all working in divine unison. You know I love a good table vignette.

Small-Scale Fabric

Small-scale patterned fabrics are our friends. They bring visual calm and order to a room packed with larger prints. Or they can offer a subtle nod of awesome to a couch or chair whose look you would like to maintain "muted". The repeating diminutive pattern can be very sophisticated and not boring.

A small-scaled fabric that recently made its way into my consciousness:

This diamond/medallion-ish pattern by Duralee would look fantastic on a sofa. In a library or a den. That perfect mix of masculine/feminine.

And another one that has a nice kick of color:

This geometric is also by Duralee and perfection for a pair of club chairs, don't you think?
