I'm a strong proponent of the tufted velvet headboard. I think if your headboard has a bit of drama, it can carry the room and you can relax on other elements. And a headboard is often a budget-friendly option, as opposed to a full bed, that allows for a creative bedskirt.
My favorite selection of TVHs is currently at Urban Outfitters. I l-o-v-e the color options!
I think they even have a couple more colors that I did not include. I genuinely think I would be happy with any of these. I think the scale is just right. Aaaand, the price ain't bad - 350 bones. Not cheap, but affordable. And this particular silhouette is difficult to DIY with its curves and tuftedness.
Do you like this type of headboard? Or do you prefer a full bed?

I really like this type of headboard and am actually considering it for my daughter's bed - although if I ever saw it in a shade of pale blue I would immediately think of the original bedroom of Don & Betty Draper from "Mad Men."
ReplyDeleteYou might already know this, but Target actually carries the same headboard in a slightly different selection of colors for $329 (and they often have shipping deals on furniture) - they call it the "Toulouse" headboard: http://www.target.com/Toulouse-Velvet-Headboard/dp/B002AB19QQ . I actually featured it in a velvet roundup on my blog ( http://luisadesignblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/velvet.html ). They actually have a whole variety of velvet headboards, some tufted, some with pretty nailhead trim. My favorite is the "Brittany" (http://www.target.com/Brittany-Velvet-Headboard/dp/B002AB19OI).
ReplyDeleteI have been loving them lately - I think they would be MUCH more comfortable for reading in bed, etc. when you want something comfy behind the pillows. I liked your comments about how they can carry the room - very nicely put! I don't have one (yet) but I want to get one when we are back in the US (not exactly easy to find over here and not at those prices for sure!).
ReplyDeleteI like them and am considering them for my daughter's room. My only concern with a kids' room is wear and tear. God forbid someone gets lice or something....what do you do? (Sorry, sounds gross but it does happen when kids are in school--or it did when I was growing up). On these particular images my only compaint is that the headboard kinda sticks out beyond the bed and looks sortof out of place....but I am sure on a fully dressed bed you wouldn't notice that. So, this is my long winded way of saying I like them!
ReplyDeleteI agree....that's a deal for a tufted headboard! Especially for velvet...quite the effect those would have in a bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI have a gorgeous antique hand-carved bed set that is a family heirloom, that if I didn't want it my mom would be heart broken...but tufted velvet headboards make me want to face the consequences because I love them SO much!
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine has this headboard in green and it's so lovely in person. $350 is a STEAL.
