One item I keep coming back to again and again when decorating a room is a bamboo roman shade or bamboo blinds. They are the perfect layering piece behind curtains. Or hang them all alone like this amazing bedroom below:
(You want that bedroom, don't you?)
I have those exact bamboo blinds in my dining room (or if not exact, pretty close). Mine are the Petite Rustique Bamboo Roman Shade from Overstock.
Here is why they are awesome - they are pretty inexpensive as blinds go and if you do an outside mount, you don't have to get the exact dimensions of your window. Custom blinds are priiiicey, so these guys offer you a great look for a fraction of the price. If you pair them with curtains, the uneven overhang on the outside of your window is covered by the curtains so no one is wise to your optical illusion.
I've used these blinds in our dining room, our bedroom (a darker shade) and I plan to do it in one of our guest bedrooms. Mason's nursery is also getting one.
Have you used these blinds at your place?

Love the blinds, but I might love that bed more- the colors are so pretty and very relaxing. I wish I could crawl back into bed right about now :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree-- they're perfect to pair with curtains! I love the texture against fabric. IKEA has a decent blind I've used a few times.

I got mine from Overstock too. I just can't stand the white mini blinds from the builder. I am lining mine with blackout lining for my family room to eliminate glare on the TV.
ReplyDeleteI do want that bedroom! Such pretty colors combined with that awesome hanging light fixture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me! I needed to order bamboo shades to go under curtains in my living room. I just ordered from your link (if you get credit). I'm going to do an outside mount because they'd have to be custom to do an inside one and I spent enough on the curtains!
ReplyDeleteAnd that room is great! I just wonder if they actually raise/lower the blinds with the mirror in front, but maybe it's out far enough that it doesn't interfere. I may get these for my bedroom, too, but I still NEED my ugly rolldown shades underneath for summer. Can't sleep with any light!
ReplyDeleteoh yes, I love them. My only complaint is that they are a bit see-through at night, so they aren't great by themselves if you are looking to block the view inside.
ReplyDeleteI just came across your blog today, while looking for inspiration in Google images! I have been drooling over all your posts, and when I came across this one I had to comment, because I did the exact thing. I love a good deal as much as the next girl, and even more that my husband and I are renting. I don't let renting hold me back though. It's become an OCD thing I have to have my home whether it be permanently mine or not I have to have it as CHIC and COMFORTABLE as possible. It drives my husband crazy, but what can I say it's a passion. So needless to say he looked at me crazy when he saw the box of bamboo shades from overstock, and asked what was wrong with the faux white blinds that were currently in the L.R., I just smiled and said hang please. I was hoping they would fit perfectly, but they are about an inch off on both sides! However, like you said curtains cover them up! :) I tried to take down the builder's faux blinds and store them in my closet but like others mentioned the bamboo are not for privacy, so they happily reside underneath my chic bamboo blinds and no one knows! :)
ReplyDeletelove everything about this room! I became obsessed with bamboo blinds as well as trying to find that chandelier so if anyone's curious..:) its on this website http://www.shellhorizons.com/products.asp?category=49 but might i warn-currently out of stock :(
ReplyDeletegood.
ReplyDeleteThe Bamboo blinds are so pretty simply breath taking, like the ones I saw at www.swaleblinds.co.uk. I love shutters like bambook ones or the hiphop ones, these are nice and cool. Thanks mate for sharing about it.
