That Green Lamp

I think lamps are a bit of a design secret weapon. When treated like a thoughtful design element, they can really make a space.

Now, the lamp isn't the only thing making a statement in this bedroom below by Phoebe Howard. The entire space is bananas, but that lamp sure does catch my eye:

I love how she's used black and green together...that bed! But back to the lamp - I really love it and found this pair on Overstock for a steal of under $200 for both.

And I'm happy to report that a client loved the lamps as much I do so they are going in her bedroom. I've now seen them in person and they are so pretty - the green hue is spot on and the brass detail is a tasty little treat.

Friday Crush

Matching outfits! I had to do it. We've spent this past week on our annual family beach trip and I just couldn't pass up the chance to snap a picture in our matching dresses. The week has been a blast as usual...will be hard getting back to the real world next week.

I'm going to enjoy soaking up the last moments of vacation...have a great weekend. See you next week!

Ocean Club by Vervain

What does this delicious fabric, Ocean Club by Vervain, NOT have? Amazing colors, embroidery, chevron, stripe....

It's a beautiful upholstery weight and would look KILLER on a pair of club chairs...imagine doing that with the first pastel colorway. Just imagine.  I love these multi-colored fabrics that just drip with sophistication...and I love how all of these colors are working together.

Happy Wednesday!

Madcap Dining Room

I know I've blogged about this room eleventy billion times (like here and here), but it's just that good. And I just love the duo of Jason Oliver Nixon and John Loecke. Such irreverent talent and joie de vivre.

A tweet from Marisa alerted me to the fact that New York Social Diary did a feature on Jason and John's house....with some new pics of my dining room:

Photographs by Jeff Hirsch

It's still over-the-top and delicious. And I love how it flows into the living room. I'll never tire of seeing this room from all angles.

Check out the whole house, with LOTS of pictures, here...

Friday Crush

I would surely welcome the entrance of THIS dragon from Herend. Wow...what a showstopper! Herend has the best color palettes in its pieces...love this orange, green, and pinky lilac combination.  And the pattern! So classic yet so bold. I would love to perch him on a gorgeous sideboard or bookshelf. A big thanks to Maureen for bringing this dragon into my view.

Have a fantastic weekend...see you next week!!

Enter the Dragons

What a name for a fabric! Enter the Dragons...a jaw-dropping stunner of a Chinoiserie textile from Jim Thompson Fabrics.

HE-llo! This pattern has a huge repeat which kicks up the drama to pretty high levels. And the colors! Jade, mandarin, poppy all against dark grounds of cocoa...yes, yes and yes.

This fabric is part of the Dynasty Collection from No. 9 Thompson, a division of the parent company. Some other gems from the same collection:

Chinese Steps

Flaming Stripe

And Enter the Dragons paired up with Chinese Steps...so gorgeous:

Pretty stunning, right? Though I love a good dragon I actually think Chinese Steps might be my favorite one in this collection. See more images from the Dynasty Collection here »

Catalog Pick: Fretwork Console

This Fretwork Console table from West Elm is an instant classic. Love the slightest touch of our beloved fret on a weathered finish.

The lines are so straight and clean. Nothing too jumbly and geometric. This is the kind of table that will see so many iterations of your home and never skip a beat. I feel like I'm always looking for these more petite consoles...glad to add this one to my Rolodex.

WE also carries it in a nightstand...works just as well in a smaller, bedroom-friendly version:

What do you think of this take on fretwork?

Me, in Luxe Magazine

I'm happy to report that you can find me in the Summer 2013 issue of Luxe Interiors + Design magazine!  I'm one of six design bloggers asked to weigh in on some fantastic products for the issue's Spotlight section.

Oh hey, that's me! Talking about a lovely twisted-leg table.

A big thanks to Mallory Evans for asking me to participate...it was fun talking about these items and seeing the final printed piece has been a thrill. It's a great issue so be sure to pick it up!

Friday Crush

Periwinkle is my jam right now. And when David Hicks does it with hot pink and cobalt blue...hello! Now tell me this space isn't current. Good design never goes out of style, y'all. Even if the color collection is a bit much for you...you have to agree the arrangement and interest of this room is timeless. Or maybe you don't agree. But can we all agree on the rug? THE RUG.

Summer is just racing by. Hope you have great plans to enjoy. Happy weekend...see you next week!

Sanctuary Wallpaper

Wallpaper beauty to share today. I love a good bird motif. Duh. But this one takes it to a new level. Although it's exuberant, I wouldn't call it ornate in the traditional sense of bird-clad papers. And its hand-painted quality softens it just enough to make it sweet and inviting.

Sanctuary from Tyler Hall's Marseilles collection:

I could see that pink+gray combo (Pinkberry) working fantastically in a modern space with, say, black leather. And the periwinkle-grounded one (Periwinkle) is just, well, stunning. I'm having a love affair with periwinkle and that paper is just doing everything right.

Unfortunately, the Tyler Hall website doesn't let me link you right to the paper, but follow this link and look for the Marseilles collection.

Are you a bird-motif lover like me?

My New Art from Kerry Steele

This past weekend, I welcomed a spectacular piece of art into my home from Virginia artist Kerry Steele:

GORGEOUS. I spotted this piece in her shop and the colors were the exact mix that I've been working with in our basement. I think this piece was fated to live with me.

But the most fun part about this purchase is that I actually went to pick it up in Fredericksburg, so I got to meet Kerry! Y'all, you walk into her house and there are paintings everywhere. It would be very convenient if I could create pieces like hers whenever I needed one. But alas, I don't have that talent.

But Kerry sure does...a sampling from her Etsy shop:

I saw this one above hanging...and besides the one I purchased, this is my absolute favorite. Those colors!! If I had that damn money tree, I would be buying this one in a heartbeat. So, basically, I want it is what I'm saying.

Kerry is as sweet and likeable as her painting as colorful. It was a total delight to meet her...especially since art is such a personal thing - I like knowing the hands that created it.

So now I have two large works in my possession...both by Virginia artists. I sniff the start of my collection...

America's color palette shining bright in Thibaut's Monterey collection...particularly the curtain fabric called Sulu.

Hope you had a fantastic 4th! Have a gorgeous weekend...see you next week!

Vintage Textile Pillows

Loving these pillows made from vintage textiles:

Etsy shop BylinaStudio, based in Barcelona, takes bits of embroidered vintage tablecloths, vintage woven towels, even some vintage costuming and creates these beautiful pillow covers. Even though they sport colorful patterns, I think the aesthetic here is really soft and lovely. And though some of these patterns are vintage, they sure have a modern vibe to them.

Check out the full Etsy shop here...

Awesome Austin Kitchen

You know I don't post a whole lot about kitchens. Their usual lack of textiles and overabundance of hard surfaces don't make for a lot of commentary on my end, but sometimes I see a kitchen and I really like it. And want to talk about it.

Like this one in Austin, TX:

Now, in reality, I think that kitchen island is more of a teal blue than a jade green. But in this photo, it's looking real jade-like. And jade green + french blue + brass accents is killer. KILLER. And the marble against these colors is spectacular.

Let's open it up and see another view:

Yes. Y-E-S. Modern kitchens do not stir my soul but this kitchen has a crispness with its sharp lines that puts it into modern territory, but it's SO WARM. That floor!!! And the bench on the end of the table is really smart to not block paths or views.

I think this kitchen embodies a family space...it's youthful and warm and well-designed. Love it.
