Friday Crush

This pin from Olivia caught my eye and clicking through revealed the most delicious blog post from Mark D. Sikes on all things blue, white and Chinoiserie. Lovely, lovely eye candy. And this chair in blue Les Touches is bananas...so modern and contemporary but the parts are so classic.

Hope you have a splendid weekend...see you next week!

Hand-painted Pillows

I stumbled across these delightful hand-painted pillows on Etsy from shop MerryMery based in Santiago, Chile. Don't you love that? That you can score Chilean pillows with a couple of mouse clicks? I do.

Aren't these sweet?

These would be darling on a white slipcovered couch in a lake or river cottage....or just on your bed. Something about the simplicity of the florals in primary colors against white just really grabbed my attention.

The shop is full of totally gorgeous canvas bags that appear to be the main focus but you can find these pillows here and here.

Beach Trip

Hope you had a lovely holiday weekend. We kicked off summer with our first trip to the beach (trailer) for the season with my sister, brother-in-law and nephews. It was glorious.

With fellow curly-haired cousin Owen:

Remember Charlie? He's a handsome big boy now!

It was a fantastic vacation and just what I needed to hit the reset button. Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Friday Crush

HELLO bananas-awesome pool house located in my favorite Albemarle County, Virginia. The fretwork. The cornflower blue ceiling. The pagoda lantern. The black doors. The double Chinoiserie mirrors hanging over a luscious bench. YES. Can you imagine lounging here to get respite from the sun in your incredibly chic caftan cover-up? All the genius of architect Madison Spencer. Couldn't think of a better way to kick off the unofficial start of summer.

If you are a lover of classic Virginia style, read this blog post...

Enjoy Memorial Day weekend...we are off to the beach. See you next week!

Bow Tie Fabric

Carter is known for his bow ties. The man loves nothing more than a sharp-looking neck knot and has amassed quite the collection over the years. So when I saw this fabric from Baker Lifestyle, I instantly thought of my better half:

The little hand-drawn bow ties are so sweet yet the colors are nice and adult-like...meaning the fabric can go either way. I would love to see this on an upholstered rocking chair in a little man's room (especially in the blue and sand colorway) or on a club chair in a big man's study.

Would also be great as a roman shade in a dressing room or bathroom...See all colors here (there is even one for the ladies).

Black Bathroom Tile

Although the retro tile had to go in our downstairs guest bathroom, I LOVE the 50s era tile we have going on in our upstairs bathroom. It's retro in a good way.

The space has gotten no love since we moved in but I dream of playing up the pretty gray and black tile to create something special, like these GORGEOUS baths designed by Madeline Stuart.

We have black tile that runs in a similar pattern as these baths and I think it looks so sharp. Although our gray tile isn't quite as fetching as these bold colors, I think it still has the potential to create a lovely look.

What do you think of these baths? Are you for marble, sea tones and a "spa-like" ambiance in your bathrooms? Or do you like the funky (but I would argue classic) look of these spaces?

Friday Crush

Photo by Michael J. Lee via New England Home Magazine

You are going to LOVE this bathroom renovation. Do yourself a favor and click here to see how this boring bath got a super-duper chic facelift. Designer Stephanie Sabbe really worked some magic in this space - a bathroom with a "spa-like" feel that is definitely unique. The herringbone floor is enough to make you swoon.

Have a fantastic weekend - see you next week!

Margaret Kirkland

I love what Margaret Kirkland is doing in Atlanta. Her interiors are just classic, elegant perfection and I can't get enough of this home that is featured in the current (May 2014) issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles:

 Photos by Mali Azima

Delicious, right? That nursery!!!!! The colors are a dream. And I love how the home flows...no two rooms are using the exact same color palette but they all employ cool tones that relate and that work great with the home's architecture.

The blue door in the kitchen has to be my favorite. I feel like it completely ties the kitchen to the rest of the home's style. A small detail that has a big impact.

Love, love, love. Check out more of Margaret's work here.

E. Svachian

Well, these are fun:

Vintage watercolors by artist E. Svachian who worked in Tehran in the 50s and 60s, per One Kings Lane where I found these colorful little works. I just LOVE the color combinations! These would be so chic as a set in a really modern space.

Unfortunately, I'm late to the game as only the first two (my favorite) are available here and here. Or Google "E. Svachian" and see what else the internet has to offer by this whimsical artist who obviously picked up on the beauty around him.

Friday Crush

There you go...more yellow popped against neutrals. I'm really liking this look, everyone. And the Christopher Farr upholstery fabrics on these wingbacks is sensational. Very modern yet completely in harmony with the style of these chairs. And a nod to the natural fiber rug which plays a key role in toning it all down to keep a casual vibe intact.

Hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day...see you next week!

Kilim Pillow Source

If you love kilim pillows, you are going to be very happy because I found a great source on Etsy - Decolic - that has a fabulous selection, wonderful colors and great prices.

Check out these pillows in the most wonderful shades of orchid!

Amazing, right? They are super-duper chic and are just a small sample of what this shop has for selection.

You're Welcome.

Catalog Pick: Lydia Stools

I love a kitchen island with room for bar (or counter) stools. Such a practical way to feed the kids or sip wine with your spouse or friends while you're cooking dinner. Plus they are a great way to add furniture to a kitchen.

I say all this as an owner of a galley kitchen with NO room for stools. Sad face. But if I did have room, I think I might go for something like this Lydia stool from Ballard Designs. LOVE the classic Windsor shape and though I'm usually not a "weathered wood" kind of gal, the finish on these is really catching my eye:

I would love to see a set of these in a classic black and white kitchen with antique brass pendant lights. Hopefully Ballard still has these around if I ever upgrade to a big girl kitchen.

The Lydia silhouette comes in counter and bar stools, dining chairs, a bench and more...check it out here.

Friday Crush

image from El Mueble, via House of Turquoise

First, this post on House of Turquoise this week was amazing. I usually like my country homes all white and bright but this English home is pouring on the charm with color. Magenta, anyone? Totally gorgeous.

But I'm really loving the wall/window treatment here. Now, I imagine these ceilings are pretty high but methinks that this little trick of bringing down the ceiling "edge" a couple of feet and then hanging curtains above that visual line may give the feeling of taller ceilings? If anything, it gives the room some interesting architectural detail. I'm a fan.

Ana Claire has her first swimming lesson tomorrow and I'm pretty excited. Can't wait to snap pictures of our favorite toddler in her swimsuit. Hope you have thrilling plans as well this weekend. See you next week!

Rifle Paper Co. Office

Are we all Anna Bond fanatics? I live in a design-intense world - both graphic and interior - so I assume Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co. is a household name? Her floral art - that started as a small Etsy shop - is everywhere. Wedding stationary, iPhone cases, calendars...and I. Love. It. All. AC for sure had Rifle Paper Co. birth announcements.

Like all things good, the Rifle Paper Co. "look" is now being done by others but nothing compares to Anna's original creations. As a fan, I was delighted to see this peek into Anna's life and work on Design*Sponge.

Especially this look at her office which is clearly inspired by her work. Love her dark color palettes!

All photos via Design*Sponge

Love the green velvet chairs with that overdyed rug against the black wall.

And if Anna Bond is new to you because you don't really hang in the graphic world, she is collaborating with Hygge & West to bring the interiors world her art on wallpaper. And I know it's going to be fantastic as per this teaser:

Ummm, yes, please!
